Vic: Greater Dandenong cautious about injecting room

Victoria's Greater Dandenong Council has cautiously greeted the possibility of it hosting
a safe heroin injecting room.

Mayor ANGELA LONG says the council is undecided about the trial for a supervised injecting
facility.

The council was organising seven workshops in the first half of May involving health,
youth, schools, business, police and public transport officials as well as community groups.

The council is also planning a public forum on May 12 to allow residents to ask questions
and make their views known.

Cr LONG says council has asked the state government to clearly outline the supposed
benefits of the plan.

The council has also sought assurances that extra police will be assigned to the area.
