Graham Davidson, 19, had left his Peterhead flat when he heardnoise. Two youths were preparing to fight over a girl.

A judge heard that Mr Davidson approached one of the brawlersand asked: "What do you think you're doing?"

Advocate depute Alex Prentice, prosecuting, said as he did so hewas struck on the left side of his face with a broken bottle.

Paramedics arrived to find blood pumping from Mr Davidson's faceand he was immediately taken to ARI.
